About the museum

The centre was established in 1970 in a building next to the PTTK hostel on Jaworzyna Krynicka, which stands on the foundations of the former tourist shelter “Sarenka”. Its present name was given by a resolution of the PTTK Mountain Tourism Commission of 6 June 2016. The site lies below the summit of Jaworzyna Krynicka, within the administrative boundaries of Krynica-Zdrój, and is run by the PTTK branch named after Roman Nitribitt in Krynica-Zdrój.

The permanent exhibition presents the history of mountain tourism in the Beskid Sądecki: the pioneers of tourism, the history of the hostel, the principles of trail marking, the campsite, mountain rescue and memorabilia of the partisans of the Second World War. It shows, among other things, visitors' books from nearby hostels, an exhibition on Kazimierz Sosnowski and Walery Goetel, and a commemoration of Jan Kiepura's stay at the hostel.

The centre also houses a temporary exhibition, the “Moskałówka” research workshop, a tourist library and a sales point for guidebooks.
