About the museum
The Prywatne Muzeum Przyrodniczo-Łowieckie “Łuczakówka” (Private Nature and Hunting Museum “Łuczakówka”) was founded, set up and is run by Józef Łuczak, a lover of nature and hunting who is a retired military gunsmith by profession. He gathered the collection over more than thirty years through hunts and expeditions and through donations, and he mounted most of the animals himself for educational purposes. Many specimens come from animals that died in road accidents, from electrocution, during harsh winters or from natural causes.
The exhibition consists of several hundred mounted animals, including many legally protected species, displayed in glass cases. The Bird Room houses more than 300 birds, and the Hall of Large Game and Predators shows antlers and horns as well as whole specimens of wolves, lynxes, otters and beavers, often in scenes showing animal behaviour. A separate section consists of trophies from Namibia, including kudu, springbok and giraffe, as well as replica weapons and ammunition.
