About the museum
The idea of building a museum in Mirosławiec emerged at the beginning of the 1980s, when the voivode of Piła offered to finance the investment on condition that the town built the building itself. Work began in June 1983. Only the upper floor could be completed by the planned date, so the first, modest opening took place on 12 October 1984. A larger ceremony was held on 16 March 1985.
The exhibition tells the story of the fighting in the area of Mirosławiec during the breakthrough of the Pomeranian Wall in 1945. The central element of the first hall is a diorama measuring 9 × 3.5 m by the painter Stefan Garwatowski, and a list of 293 soldiers who fell in these battles. The second hall, opened on 26 August 2011, is devoted to the history of military aviation in Mirosławiec and covers the 59 years of the presence of air forces in the town; it also commemorates airmen who died in the crash of a CASA aircraft in January 2008.
In front of the building stand open-air exhibits: four guns, a T-34 tank and a Su-22 aircraft. The museum is run by the municipal cultural centre and is visited by school groups, walking and cycling tourists, and guests from abroad.
