About the museum

The Museum of the Pomeranian Wall was founded in 2009 on the initiative of a group of enthusiasts associated with the Association of Fortification Groups of the Wałcz Lake District (Stowarzyszenie Grup Warownych Pojezierza Wałeckiego). It is located in Wałcz by national road no. 22, on the site of former military barracks. For several years the exhibition room could be visited at set times. The institution now does not function as an ordinary museum: it hosts thematic classes for pre-registered groups, who may view the exhibition at the same time.

The collections are divided into four parts. The first concerns the beginnings of the construction of the Pomeranian Wall and the German army in 1934–1945 (weapons, motorcycles, uniforms and other militaria). The following parts present the equipment and methods of the Red Army in 1945, the equipment and post-war fate of soldiers of the 1st Polish Army, and the history of prisoner-of-war camps in the Wałcz Land.

The exhibitions are constantly refreshed and expanded. Bunkers survive on the barracks grounds: an observation and combat bunker, an observation post in the clock tower, and a command bunker, which can be visited during workshops. The museum also includes a vehicle garage with, among other things, Soviet motorcycles and a BA-64B light armoured car.
