About the museum
The Muzeum Wody opened in 2005 as the first water-supply museum in Poland. It was set up in a former pressure filter hall, which had been taken out of use in 1996 after the modernised water treatment station at ul. Żwirowa was commissioned. Only a few months passed between the idea and the opening, and the building was thoroughly renovated.
In the hall, which is more than a hundred years old, the museum presents almost three hundred years of the history of Koszalin's water supply. Visitors can see old plans and maps of the water and sewage network, a fragment of a wooden water pipe from 1726, hydrants and equipment from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, drawings and photographs, a reproduction of a historic fountain and a collection of old water meters. Some of the exhibits were donated by employees of the waterworks.
The museum is run by Miejskie Wodociągi i Kanalizacja w Koszalinie as part of ecological education aimed mainly at children and young people. In 2009 the building was entered in the National Register and Documentation of Monuments. The museum also opens to all interested visitors during the Museum Night.
