About the museum
The Zagroda Jamneńska belongs to the Ethnography Department of the Museum in Koszalin and is located in Jamno, in the northern part of the city. Until 2010 Jamno was a village on the lake of the same name. For centuries the village was almost cut off from the world by peat bogs and marshes, and a paved road to Koszalin was built only at the beginning of the 20th century. This isolation allowed a unique Jamno culture to develop, which German researchers were already describing in the 19th century.
The farmstead was created as part of a project to reconstruct a 19th-century Jamno farmstead, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and completed in 2018. Two buildings of half-timbered construction with reed roofs were reconstructed, positioned in relation to each other and to the road as in the former village. The cottage is a replica of a dwelling house from 1853 and is entirely devoted to an exhibition on the everyday life of the Jamno people in the second half of the 19th century, with the commentary supplemented by a multimedia app.
The second building is a barn of about 280 m², whose form alone refers to construction from 1765. Its interior serves education and workshops, during which participants learn about Jamno ornamentation and handicrafts. The Zagroda hosts year-round workshops, museum lessons and annual events, including demonstrations of sheep herding and shearing and fairs.
