About the museum
The museum is housed in the former Szkoła Podstawowa im. Tadeusza Starca (primary school) in Dziedzice, built on the foundations of a demolished manor house. The village is linked to the fate of the prisoners of Oflag II C Woldenberg from Dobiegniew, who regained their freedom here in January 1945. Their memory was later kept alive through cooperation between the school and the Fundacja Woldenberczyków. After the school closed in 2004, the building was taken over by the Stowarzyszenie Przyjaciół Dziedzic.
In 2005 the association opened the Muzeum Wojskowości, Szkolnictwa i Wsi (Museum of Military Affairs, Schooling and the Village), and in 2015 it opened further rooms: a former kitchen, a forge, a woodshed, a bedroom, a farm room and a classroom. The building also houses a memorial room for the Woldenberg prisoners and a library. The institution is a branch of the Muzeum Regionalne w Barlinku.
The museum runs “Przygoda w muzeum” (An Adventure in the Museum), sessions for groups in which participants write with a quill and ink at an old school bench, build bird feeders, churn butter and make pasta. The annual programme includes the Museum Night, historical and craft workshops, and commemorations of the Woldenberg prisoners.
