About the museum
The Izba Historyczna in Pełczyce opened in December 2013 in the cellars of the Miejsko-Gminny Ośrodek Kultury (Municipal and Rural Cultural Centre). It was made possible by members of the Stowarzyszenie Przyjaciół Ziemi Pełczyckiej, who gathered most of the collection; the institution operates as a municipal unit.
The oldest exhibits are archaeological finds from the Lusatian culture, including stone querns, arrowheads, and bone and stone tools found by local residents. A large part of the collection consists of memorabilia from the 19th and 20th centuries: old irons, paraffin lamps, scythes, scales, waffle irons and meat grinders, as well as agricultural tools and furniture.
The collection also includes coins – Roman, Prussian, coins of the Pomeranian dukes and Polish coins – pre-war documents, photographs and postcards showing the history of Pełczyce, and religious objects such as a Latin missal and prayer books. A separate section is devoted to militaria: about seventy helmets, gas masks, army decorations from the Second World War and a tank track. The Izba also organises commemorative exhibitions.
