About the museum

The Pyrzyce Land Museum operates as the Tradition Department (Dział Tradycji Pyrzyckiej) of the Public Library, and since August 2013 it has had its exhibition in the Holy Spirit Chapel (kaplica św. Ducha) at ul. Zabytkowa 34. Previously the collections were shown in the library's main seat. The department's task is to collect and display memorabilia connected with the history of the Pyrzyce Land, from the Stone Age to the present day.

The chapel was built of granite ashlars, probably at the end of the 13th century, and formed part of a hospital complex. It was remodelled at the beginning of the 15th century, and further changes were made in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1945 the building was destroyed by fire, and in 1967–1969 it was rebuilt for the needs of the public library. A Gothic portal and an ornamental frieze with rosettes and animal reliefs have survived on the north façade.

The collections include archaeological finds, coins, old tools and household equipment, products of former workshops, documents, periodicals, and a collection of more than three hundred postcards from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The most valuable exhibits are 15th-century Pyrzyce denarii, two 14th-century bells from the church in Obromin and epitaphs from the church in Nowielin. The museum also shows works by contemporary local folk artists, painters and sculptors, and a collection of press clippings about Pyrzyce kept since 1955.
