About the museum
The Museum of Contemporary Pomeranian Maritime Handicrafts opened on 28 November 2003. Its first seat was the Krzywy Domek (Crooked House) on Monciak in Sopot, and later, until May 2010, the Gemini Centre of Culture and Entertainment in Gdynia. The museum now operates in Sarbsk on the grounds of SeaPark, run by the company A. Myślińska Fokarium.
The collections consist of works by amateur makers: retired fishermen, seafarers and port workers. They include carvings, ship models, paintings, diplomas and collections of maritime souvenirs. According to the museum, eleven permanent displays show, among other things, Pomeranian nativity scenes with maritime motifs, fishing genre scenes, models of the boats and cutters that fished the Baltic over the last hundred years, maritime painting and a shipwright’s workshop.
A particular attraction is Captain Morgan’s mess hall, which presents the collecting passions of seafarers and fishermen and the atmosphere of a harbour tavern, the mess of a sailing ship and a captain’s saloon. Admission to the museum is only with a ticket to the SeaPark.
