About the museum

The Museum of the History of the Congregation of the Orionist Priests in Poland (Muzeum Dziejów Zgromadzenia Księży Orionistów w Polsce) was opened on 31 October 2004 during the thanksgiving celebrations for the canonisation of the congregation's founder, Saint Alojzy Orione. It is housed in the Mission House of the Little Work of Divine Providence (Dom Misyjny Małego Dzieła Boskiej Opatrzności) at ul. Łaskiej 88 in Zduńska Wola, to which the Orionists came in 1923. The advocate of the museum's creation and its first custodian was Fr Marian Kliś. The exhibition was prepared as a gift by the Zduńska Wola History Museum (Muzeum Historii Miasta Zduńska Wola) in cooperation with the Friends of Zduńska Wola Society (Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Zduńskiej Woli).

The exhibition opens with a symbolic łódź-krosno (boat-loom) with a mast in the shape of a cross, referring to the arrival of the congregation in the town. The museum features biographical exhibitions devoted to St Alojzy Orione, St Jan Paweł II, Archbishop Bronisław Dąbrowski and other clergy associated with the congregation, as well as collections of religious objects, including seventeenth-century liturgical vessels, chasubles (ornaty) and rosaries.

The collections also include phaleristic (orders and medals), numismatic and philatelic collections, and ethnographic collections. A separate part of the exhibition presents the missionary work of the Orionists in Kenya, Madagascar, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Australia, Belarus and Ukraine. The museum is open all year round on request, after prior registration at the monastery gate.
