About the museum
The idea of establishing a museum in Lubartów emerged already after the First World War and was revived in 1955 among members of the local circle of history enthusiasts. The collecting of exhibits was led by teacher and regionalist Karol Skaruch. The Regional Museum was established by resolution of the District People’s Council of 1 January 1966, and its solemn opening took place on 17 October 1970. Initially the institution occupied three rooms of the manor house at ul. Kościuszki, and it took over the whole building in 1983.
After a general renovation the museum resumed exhibition activity in 1990. In 2014, by decision of the City Council, the existing Regional Museum was transformed into the Museum of the Lubartów Land. The collections comprise more than 2,500 objects from the fields of ethnography, history, numismatics and archaeology.
The permanent exhibition “Z dziejów Lubartowa” (From the History of Lubartów) shows the history of the town from prehistoric times to the 20th century: archaeological monuments, documents from the time of the town’s charter, the themes of the Firlej and Sanguszko families, and Judaica.
