About the museum

The Museum of Old Appliances in Wambierzyce was founded by Marian Gancarski, a long-time village head (sołtys) who died in 2022. The collection dates back to the 1960s, when he began to gather post-German equipment from local farms. In 1978 he bought a run-down farm, and in 1992 he turned it into an agritourism business; the museum also began operating at that time.

The collection numbers over ten thousand exhibits, mainly from the 18th to 20th centuries: technical monuments (including an Ursus C-45 tractor, irons, radios and televisions), smithy equipment, textile and agricultural machines, craft tools, furniture, toys, objects of worship, militaria, fossils, minerals, coins and hunting trophies. The exhibition is housed in two buildings and in the open air, where there are also sculptures and old gravestones.

The institution belongs to the Association of Open-Air Museums in Poland (Stowarzyszenie Muzeów na Wolnym Powietrzu w Polsce); a mini zoo also operates at the farm.
