About the museum
The open-air museum in Kuligów lies in the commune of Dąbrówka nad Bugiem, about 25 kilometres from Warsaw. It was founded by Wojciech Urmanowski to save and display the heritage of the Masovian village. It is now run by the Fundacja Dziedzictwo Nadbużańskie (Bug Heritage Foundation).
The site contains authentic buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, moved from various places in Masovia and Podlasie, including a forge and a peasant farmstead. The interiors are filled with original everyday objects that show the life, work and customs of the former inhabitants of the village.
The open-air museum is also a venue for craft workshops, such as blacksmithing and pottery, painting and sculpture plein-air sessions, and cultural events. Works from the plein-air sessions can be seen in a gallery on the site. A restaurant serving regional cuisine operates seasonally, and a programme with pottery workshops and guided tours has been prepared for schools and kindergartens.
