About the museum
The Zagroda Sitarska is a complex of wooden buildings from the 19th century, preserved in its original location. The house was built in 1810 by Andrzej Grabiński, a burgher of Biłgoraj. The homestead also includes farm buildings, a woodshed, a granary, a wagon shed and a flower garden, which makes it a rare example of a complete craftsman's farmstead. It was opened to visitors in 1976.
The reconstructed interiors include a sieve-maker's workshop, a living room and a kitchen with a stove. Sieve-making, that is the production of sieves from horsehair and bast, has been one of Biłgoraj's main crafts since the 17th century.
The exhibition also presents other local crafts: pottery, cooperage and oil pressing. The homestead hosts ethnographic workshops, demonstrations (sieve-making, butter churning, mangling), summer open-air events and museum lessons. There is also a small souvenir shop here.
