About the museum
The Muzeum Gminne w Biszczy was established by resolution of the municipal council of 25 March 2002. The museum is housed in the building of the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury, Sportu i Rekreacji (GOKSiR, municipal centre of culture, sport and recreation) and is part of it.
The collection is based on the holdings gathered by cavalry captain (rotmistrz) Antoni Kurowski, an officer of a cavalry squadron and a soldier of the Home Army. Some of the exhibits were previously shown in the Muzeum Ziemi Biłgorajskiej.
The museum mainly presents weapons from the Second World War: equipment of Polish soldiers from 1939, and weapons of partisan units and foreign armies, among them Russian, German, Austrian, French, British and American. A particular relic is the heavy Browning machine gun found in the village of Momoty Górne, where the group of Colonel Tadeusz Zieleniewski laid down its arms.
