About the museum
The idea of saving historical power-engineering objects arose in 2006 in the Nysa Land branch (koło) of the Polish Electrical Engineers Association (Stowarzyszenie Elektryków Polskich), after a visit to the Museum of Power Engineering in Szklarska Poręba. The first exhibition, consisting of 14 energy meters, 10 books and a few other objects, opened in February 2009 in the former Energy Post (Posterunek Energetyczny) in Niemodlin. In 2010–2015 the collection was expanded and renovated, and in 2025 the museum began a new stage of activity as the Social Museum of Power Engineering in Nysa.
The institution now presents over 700 exhibits documenting the development of measuring technology and power engineering since the beginning of the 20th century. The collection is divided into electricity meters, power engineering, measuring instruments, technical documents, operating instructions and a library of trade publications.
The collection includes meters of various designs, including models from before 1945 and rare solutions, among them the electrolytic mercury meter by Schott & Genossen from 1919 and the hydrogen meter E2 by SSW. The exhibits show the evolution of energy measurement from electrolytic and induction designs to solutions from the second half of the 20th century. Admission to the museum is free.
