About the museum
Fałatówka is the former home of the painter Julian Fałat in Bystra near Bielsko-Biała, where the artist lived for almost twenty years. Fałat bought the estate in 1909 and in 1911 built a wooden studio in the garden, which burned down in 1935.
After the painter’s death his children inherited the house, and in 1947 the state took it over as former German property. The idea of setting up an artist’s museum had already emerged in 1945, but the institution was opened to visitors only in August 1973. The building was modernised in 2013 and 2015.
The villa is now a branch of the Muzeum Historyczne w Bielsku-Białej (Historical Museum in Bielsko-Biała). Visitors can see the interiors of the artist’s home with his paintings, and a biographical exhibition on the painter’s life and legacy.
