About the museum
The Museum of the Torzym Land was opened in 2002 in the rooms of the town hall in Ośno Lubuskie, where a police station was previously housed. It was established to gather in one place the souvenirs connected with the history of the Torzym Land, which were scattered in private collections or stored in the town office. Ośno Lubuskie was once the capital of the Torzym Land, and later of the Western Torzym Land.
The town hall was built in 1842–1844 in the Neo-Renaissance style with Neo-Gothic elements, on the site of an older building from the 16th century. It is still the seat of the town authorities. The museum is a gmina organisational unit.
The collections come from private collectors, from residents and from purchases by the local government. The exhibition presents the history of the town and the Torzym Land from prehistoric times: ceramics from the Bronze Age to the Roman Influence period, prints, old everyday objects, militaria and a model of the medieval town, as well as information on well-known residents.
