About the museum
The Park Etnograficzny w Kaszczorku is a branch of the Ethnographic Museum in Toruń. The open-air museum presents folk architecture of the Chełmno Land and objects linked to fishing and work on the water. It was established on the site of a former multi-generational farmstead of a fishing and farming family.
Its main object is a wooden cottage from the end of the 18th century, secured on the spot where it was built; until the 60s of the 20th century it belonged to the wealthy Wilmanowicz family. The other buildings – a barn, a cowshed, a szałer and a shed – were moved to the sites of former buildings that no longer survive from other places in the Chełmno Land, which restored the layout of a quadrangular farmstead from the end of the 19th century.
In the lower part of the park, which slopes down towards the Drwęca, there are, among others, residential barges from Toruń-Winnica (1920) and from Bydgoszcz (1912), the ferry “Jan”, which until 1993 ran on the Nogat at Kępki, a lake shed for drying nets with a long boat of the sand-diggers, and a seasonal camp of Vistula fishermen.
