About the museum
The Casa Frayões Metellos, built in the 18th century, was the residence of noble families and served for about a hundred years as a primary school. The Câmara Municipal de Grândola renovated the building to house the Núcleo Museológico de Etnografia, which is the seat of the Museu Municipal Polinucleado de Grândola and coordinates the cultural facilities that make it up.
The Núcleo Museológico is a space for research, study and dissemination of the memories of life and work of the Grândola community. The exhibitions fill much of the house and recall, through images, films, texts and objects, traditional activities and crafts that have disappeared or changed due to social and economic transformations and technological modernisation. In addition to the permanent exhibition, there is a room for temporary exhibitions, an education service and a documentation centre open to anyone who wishes to consult sources on the tangible and intangible heritage of the municipality.
