About the museum
The Museu da Casa Grande is housed in a Baroque manor house from the second half of the 18th century, in the centre of Freixo de Numão, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa. The space is dedicated to the archaeological heritage of the area and presents a significant collection of materials documenting the long human occupation of the region, from prehistory to the contemporary era.
The archaeological collection comes mainly from the campaigns carried out in the parish, with particular emphasis on the Roman period, and is complemented by evidence of ethnography and local history. The museum also includes an annexed yard where Roman, medieval and modern remains are visible, showing the historical depth of the site.
Since January 2025 the museum has been managed directly by the Município de Vila Nova de Foz Côa. It is part of the archaeological circuit of Freixo de Numão and can be visited together with the Museu do Côa.
