About the museum

The Museu Industrial da Baía do Tejo is a company museum in the Baía do Tejo Business Park in Barreiro, on the grounds of the former Companhia União Fabril (CUF). It is housed in the former Central Diesel, a building constructed between 1928 and 1937, and opened in 2004 under the responsibility of Quimiparque.

The museum holds a significant collection of industrial equipment of various kinds, explains the former CUF factories and how they worked, and brings together a large documentary and iconographic archive on chemistry, the textile industry, metalworking, energy production, industrial safety and hygiene, and social services.

Visits are by appointment only. The museum also organises guided tours of the former CUF site, which include the Casa-Museu Alfredo da Silva, the factory's first office (1908), which included the owner's residence, and the preserved industrial and social buildings and facilities.
