About the museum
The Oficina de Artes Manuel Cargaleiro is located at the Quinta da Fidalga, in Arrentela, Seixal, and is a project by the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira. The single-storey building, with broken volumes, creates a sequence of interior and exterior spaces: the foyer leads to the reception desk and to the exhibition room, of about 274 m², whose “S”-shaped spaces can be divided by movable panels.
The space aims to promote contemporary art. It shows the work of the master Manuel Cargaleiro, a painter, draughtsman and ceramicist with strong ties to Seixal, and hosts temporary exhibitions by local, national and international artists. In February 2024 the artist donated seven works to the Câmara Municipal do Seixal. Cargaleiro died on 30 June 2024.
The education service organises educational programmes, workshops, guided tours, lecture cycles and other events. The surrounding garden has a view over the Tagus and Lisbon.
