About the museum
The Centro Internacional de Medalha Contemporânea occupies a restored historic building at the Quinta da Fidalga, in Arrentela, Seixal. It aims to enhance and promote medallic art and to show the vitality of contemporary artistic creation, and to serve as a meeting point, nationally and internationally, for medallists, the school and academic community and the public.
The project is the result of the municipality's commitment in this field, with more than twenty years of recognised work through biennials, exhibitions, training courses and workshops, and a world congress of the International Federation of the Medal. Much of the collection comes from donations by sculptors who took part in the biennials held in Seixal and from the prizes awarded in that context; an important part was given by the sculptor João Duarte.
The facility has a temporary exhibition room, a meeting and training room, two rooms for workshops and studios, a specialised documentation centre, a collection room and an outdoor leisure area.
