About the museum
The Centro de Arte Contemporânea Graça Morais opened in 2008 on the initiative of Bragança Municipal Council, in a joint project with Zamora. Its mentor is the painter Graça Morais, a native of the municipality of Bragança. The centre holds an important part of the artist’s work and promotes exhibitions of her work and of other Portuguese and foreign artists.
The building is an 18th-century manor house, the Solar dos Vargas, remodelled by the architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, who received the Pritzker Prize in 2011. Seven rooms are devoted to the work of Graça Morais, and the space also has a garden where events are held.
Besides the painter’s collection, the centre holds contemporary art collections resulting from co-productions and partnerships with other institutions, and organises guided tours and educational activities.
