About the museum
The unit occupies the building of the former railway station of Bragança, in the city centre, and is part of the network of the Museu Nacional Ferroviário, run by the Fundação Museu Nacional Ferroviário. The space was closed to the public from 2002 onwards.
Bragança Municipal Council carried out the renovation, which restored the former locomotive shed, or roundhouse, and doubled the exhibition area. The unit reopened on 25 April 2019.
The collection brings together locomotives, carriages, wagons, workshop equipment, station furniture, signals and other objects linked to the construction and operation of the Linha do Tua, which connected Bragança with the Douro valley. The most prominent piece is locomotive CN1, one of the first to run on the first section of the line, between this station and Mirandela.
