About the museum
The Centro de Ciência do Café, in Campo Maior, belongs to Delta Cafés and opened on 28 March 2014, following the former Museu do Café, which had opened in 1994. The building has a total area of 3,426 m² and aims to promote the culture and science of coffee, in a space of knowledge and leisure that stimulates curiosity.
The route covers the legend of Kaldi and the geographical origin of coffee, its trade in the producing countries, its spread across the world and in Portugal, coffee in society, painting, literature and cinema, and its effects on health. A greenhouse recreates the habitat of the coffee plant, with a tropical climate. The permanent exhibition brings together roasters, mills, coffee pots and cups, among other objects, and includes the first coffee tin and the first van of Delta Cafés.
From Monday to Sunday there are demonstrations and tastings of coffee-based drinks.
