About the museum

The Núcleo Museológico de Chaves (Chaves museum branch) belongs to the network of the Museu Nacional Ferroviário (National Railway Museum), run by the Fundação Museu Nacional Ferroviário. It occupies the former building used for parking rolling stock at the Estação Ferroviária de Chaves (Chaves railway station), the terminus of the former Linha do Corgo (Corgo Line).

The branch tells the story of this rail link, which between 1921 and 1990 connected Régua with Chaves. Through locomotives, carriages, wagons and various objects, it shows the rolling stock that ran on this line.

Among the highlights are the postal coach APE yf 27 and the steam locomotive CP E161, which inaugurated the first section of the Linha do Corgo, from Régua to Vila Real, in 1906.
