About the museum
The idea of establishing the first museum in Svit, called Baťa pod Tatrami (Baťa Beneath the Tatras), was the central motive when the civic association ROZPUK was founded. In 2018, on the 120th anniversary of the birth of Dr Ján Antonín Baťa, the founder of the factory and the workers' settlement, later the town of Svit, the association, together with John Nash, a grandson of J. A. Baťa, and his wife Jana, succeeded in opening the exhibition to the public.
The exhibition focuses on the moral and business principles of the brothers Tomáš and Ján Antonín Baťa and on the history of the factory and workers' settlement beneath the Tatras from 1934 to 1939. A substantial part documents the lives of young men and women who were given the opportunity to build a “slovenský Zlín” (Slovak Zlín) in the urban concept of an ideal town, to learn and to work in a factory with world-unique technology for producing artificial silk and transparent packaging material.
The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Klub absolventov Baťovej školy práce Svit, the archive and investment department of Chemosvit a. s., the Nadácia J. A. Baťu, the Klub ABŠP Zlín and local donors. The museum is housed in rented premises of the railway station in Svit; the entrance is at the end of the western terrace of the station, directly from the platform.
