About the museum

The House of the Ľubovňa Burgher stands on St Nicholas Square in the centre of Stará Ľubovňa and presents the life of the middle, burgher class of the town. It is run by the municipal tourism and regional development agency MARMON.

The house is furnished with period furniture, mostly from the 19th century in the Altdeutsch style. The exhibition is complemented by antique accessories, many of which were donated by the descendants of old Ľubovňa families. A unique feature is the exposed vault of the perfectly preserved black kitchen; the burgher's study, living room and bedroom are also open to visitors. Period photographs show the life of Ľubovňa residents and the transformation of the town, since many of the houses no longer exist.

The tour leads from the cellar, where an exhibition on the blueprint workshop is installed, to the attic, with an exhibition on the crafts and guilds of Stará Ľubovňa and its surroundings. The house also contains a pottery workshop and a mint, where visitors can strike their own coin, the Ľubovniansky zlatý (Ľubovňa Gold) or the Ľubovniansky medenák (Ľubovňa Copper).
