Temporarily closed (expected until 2029). The house has been closed to the public since 2025 because of its poor technical condition. In June 2026 the Slovenské národné múzeum began its comprehensive restoration in two stages; it will last until 2029, after which the house will open with a new exhibition.

About the museum

House number 20 on Námestie Majstra Pavla is a historic burgher house from the 15th century in the protected zone of Levoča. Its oldest known owner was Majster Pavol of Levoča, who lived and worked in it in the first half of the 16th century. It is the only building on the square owned by the museum, and it is a national cultural monument; it was last reconstructed about forty years ago.

The museum operated an exhibition here on the life and work of one of the most important masters of the late Gothic. In the form of facsimiles it presented his monumental and intimate works, whose originals are in St Jacob's Church in Levoča and in other churches in Slovakia, and it brought his life story closer through photographs and factual material.

Due to its poor technical condition, especially humidity and damaged roof trusses, the house has been closed to the public since 2025. In June 2026 the Slovenské národné múzeum began its comprehensive restoration in two stages, financed from European Union funds; it will last until 2029. After the restoration a new interactive exhibition on Master Pavol in a Central European context will be created here, together with a centre for museum education and the seat of the museum library.
