About the museum
The Múzeum špeciálneho školstva is a specialised museum with nationwide scope, which documents the history of special education, special pedagogy and the education of pupils with health disabilities. It maps mainly four basic areas: visual, hearing, physical and intellectual disability. Since 1 January 2014 it has belonged to the Centre of Scientific and Technical Information of the SR in Bratislava, and since 26 February 2014 it has been entered in the Register of Museums and Galleries of the Slovak Republic.
The permanent exhibition underwent a complete reinstallation in 2015–2017. Over four floors it offers interactive elements, replicas of rare exhibits and the opportunity to get to know the needs and lives of blind and deaf people in an experiential way. It is divided into four sections: History, Library and Reading Room, Teaching Aids and Human Senses.
The tour always takes place with a guide, lasts about 45 minutes and is intended for visitors of all ages; there are also two rest zones in the museum where a documentary film can be watched. The museum also includes a depository, an archive, exhibition spaces and a multifunctional space.
