About the museum

The Habán (Hutterite) community settled Veľké Leváre; they were also known as Hutterite brothers or Anabaptists. The Habán courtyard was established here in 1592 around the local square and is among the largest preserved sites of original Habán housing in Europe. The Habán community still lived in the village in the first half of the 20th century.

The exhibition is housed in a reconstructed original Habán house and is one of the outlying exhibitions of the Záhorské múzeum in Skalica. It presents the history of the Habán community, the characteristics of its social, family and economic life, and its traditional crafts. It is complemented by an outline of the history of the village of Veľké Leváre.

Visits must be arranged in advance at the Kultúrny dom (Cultural Centre) in Veľké Leváre.
