About the museum
The hammer mill in Medzev is a single-hammer, two-hearth water hammer mill from the second half of the 19th century, managed by the Slovak Technical Museum. Hammer forging was among the important crafts of the small town of Medzev, and the hammer mill is today a national cultural monument, recorded in the register of monuments under number 4380.
Thanks to its preserved equipment, the hammer mill is a living technical monument: visitors can learn about the historic technology of making tools by forging with a water-powered hammer. Inside, the hammer mill's equipment, tools and products are displayed in a specialised exhibition of small-scale iron production.
