Múzeum kinematografie rodiny Schusterovej v Medzeve

Museum of photographic and cinematographic technology in the birthplace of Rudolf Schuster in Medzev, with a working water hammer mill in the garden.

Opening hoursAdmission €4

About the museum

Rudolf Schuster, an enthusiastic photographer and filmmaker from his youth, collected photographic and cinematographic equipment with the intention of setting up a memorial room in his birthplace in Medzev. He wanted to commemorate the first Slovak amateur film expedition to the interior of Brazil in 1927–1928, in which Alojz Schuster also took part.

The collection was taken over after inventory by the Slovenské technické múzeum (Slovak Technical Museum) into its fund and opened to the public on 1 November 2007, with year-round operation. It contains film cameras from the beginning of the 20th century, projectors, stereoscopes and a laterna magica (magic lantern), photographic apparatus from 1890, and gifts from heads of state.

In the exterior of the museum there is a working water hammer mill with a smithy hearth and tools; at the back of the garden stand the wheels of water hammer mills, grinding stones and trip hammers.
