About the museum

The mausoleum in Krásnohorské Podhradie is a unique monument of Art Nouveau architecture in Slovakia. Count Dionýz Andrássy, the last male representative of the Monok branch of the family, had it built in 1903–1904 after the death of his wife Františka, née Hablawetz. It is the work of representatives of Munich Jugendstil and uses elements of early Christian and, in part, ancient Eastern art.

Františka died on 26 October 1902 in Munich, where she was temporarily buried; on the second anniversary of her death her remains were transferred to the mausoleum. Count Dionýz Andrássy died on 27 February 1913 in Palermo, Sicily, and on 7 March 1913 was laid to rest beside his wife.

The mausoleum is an outlying exhibition of the Slovenské národné múzeum – Múzeum Betliar and lies beside the main road Rožňava – Košice, in the cadastral area of the village of Krásnohorské Podhradie. Entry to the mausoleum is permitted for groups of up to 30 persons.
