About the museum
The Baroque manor house with four towers was built before the middle of the 18th century by the brothers Tomáš and Jozef Dessewffy. It remained the seat of the Dessewffy family until 1940. During the Second World War it housed the command of a labour camp that worked on the construction of a railway line.
Since 1976 the manor house has housed a museum for the Vranov nad Topľou region, now a workplace of the Krajské múzeum v Prešove. The manor house is situated in the town below the Slanské vrchy.
The interior of the manor house is partly closed for a complete reconstruction, provisionally until the end of 2027; the archaeological exhibition and the archaeopark remain open. The archaeological exhibition presents the oldest history of the region, from the Palaeolithic to the modern era, with original finds, supplemented by animations and virtual reality.
