Opening hoursAdmission €4

About the museum

The Renaissance burgher house existed as a stone house probably already in 1607. It is the only preserved building of this type in Trenčín that later rebuilding has not significantly disturbed. The house with a circular gallery is a typical burgher house, in which there were living and economic spaces and a black (smoke) kitchen.

According to tradition, the house is connected with the administration of justice and with imprisonment, although the validity of this connection is not entirely clear. According to some sources, a town bailiff lived in the house at the end of the 19th century and for some time there was also a prison there; others state that the town executioner actually lived here.

Today the Katov dom belongs to the Trenčín Museum and presents three permanent exhibitions.
