About the museum
The Miestne múzeum v Turanoch (Local Museum in Turany) was established in 1997 and is run by the town of Turany. It preserves and makes accessible documents on the history and present of the town, and a collection of the fauna and flora of the Turany cadastral area. In 2022 it marked the 25th anniversary of its founding.
The museum is housed in the building of the Cultural Centre in the southern part of the town, on Budovateľská ulica (Builders' Street). Its permanent exhibitions have gradually expanded: a fishing exhibition opened in 2011, a skiing exhibition in 2016 and an exhibition on the history of sport in 2024.
The current offer includes the exhibitions Staré Turany (Old Turany), Príroda (Nature), Ryby a rybárstvo (Fish and Fishing), Bazovský a Turany (Bazovský and Turany), História lyžovania v Turci (History of Skiing in Turiec), Detský kútik (Children's Corner), Technika včerajška (Yesterday's Technology), Odievanie v minulosti (Clothing in the Past) and História športu (History of Sport). Each year the museum also organises the event Večer v múzeu (Evening in the Museum).
