About the museum

The Múzeum hodín (Clock Museum) is an exhibition of the Múzeum mesta Bratislavy (Bratislava City Museum) in the Dom U dobrého pastiera (House of the Good Shepherd) on Židovská Street in the Bratislava castle district. The house was built in 1760–1765 as part of the development of the castle district. Shops and craft workshops were located in the basement and on the ground floor, and the upper floors served as living quarters.

The building is an example of high-quality Rococo burgher architecture, responding to the sloping terrain and the confined space. Original details include the illusionistic window with two flowerpots and the grilles; the figure of the shepherd under the canopy is no longer original.

Over the centuries the building underwent several alterations. During the reconstruction before the exhibition was installed, the interior was adapted to exhibition purposes. The Múzeum hodín exhibition was opened to the public in 1974, and in recent years it has been supplemented by new acquisitions of clocks.
