Michalská veža

Michalská veža (St Michael's Tower) is the only surviving gate of Bratislava's medieval fortifications and, after restoration, offers an exhibition on its history.

Opening hoursAdmission €6

About the museum

Michalská veža is the last surviving of Bratislava's original four town gates. It was built before Bratislava became a town in 1291, and over the centuries it changed both its appearance and its function. Today it documents the town's fortification system and is among its best-known landmarks.

The tower once housed the Museum of Weapons. After a general renovation in 2021–2022, the monument itself replaced the historic weapons as the main exhibit. Since 27 September 2023 the exhibition Michalská veža: po rekonštrukcii (Michalská Tower: After the Restoration) has been open. It presents the building development of the tower and the barbican, the statue of Archangel Michael with a time capsule, the bells, the tower clock, the onion-shaped roof and the subject of restoring the monument.
