About the museum
The oldest core of today's Old Town Hall is the house with the tower of the judge Jakub, who died in 1374. In the first third of the 15th century the building became the official town hall, and in 1422 the town bought the neighbouring Pawer house, above whose passage the council chamber was created. In the 16th century the town hall was remodelled in the Renaissance style, and an arcaded corridor was added to the courtyard.
The tower received its Baroque form in 1733, and in 1911–1912 a new wing was added to the town hall. In the 1960s a monument restoration uncovered the original façades, and a further reconstruction took place in 2008–2011. The building has been the seat of the Bratislava City Museum since 1868.
Visitors find an exhibition on the history of the town, an exhibition hall that is open only during temporary exhibitions, and the tower, which offers a view over the historic centre. A joint ticket also covers the nearby Apponyi Palace.
