About the museum
The Museum of the Chemical Troops in Čereňany was opened in August 2022 by members of the Klub priateľov civilnej ochrany Prievidza (Prievidza Civil Protection Friends Club). It is located on the grounds of a former military unit, which in the past served as the Base for Logistic Support of Radiological, Chemical and Biological Protection and as a storage base for the chemical troops. The municipality made it accessible to the civic association in 2020.
The museum offers an overview of the history of the Czechoslovak chemical troops and of protection against weapons of mass destruction over the last hundred years. The collection consists of protective masks, protective chemical clothing, radiological and chemical reconnaissance instruments, decontamination agents and other objects. The oldest exhibit is a French protective mask from 1917; the collection also includes a uniform from the chemical troops' mission in the Persian Gulf in 1990–1991.
Visitors can also recall basic military service before 1989. The museum makes the authentic setting of the former military base accessible, and events such as meetings of historic vehicles are held there from time to time.
