About the museum

The village of Uhrovec received a financial contribution under the INTERREG III A programme Slovak Republic – Czech Republic for the reconstruction of a dilapidated building in the centre of the village. New premises for the Uhrovské múzeum (Uhrovec Museum) were created there; on the first above-ground floor it has seven exhibitions.

The museum brings the daily life of the residents, their work, customs and clothing closer to the younger generation in particular, as well as the personalities who were born in Uhrovec or worked there. It also presents the former factories and enterprises operating in the village and its surroundings, their products and economic importance from the past to the present. Photographs from period documentation show the hard life of the workers and common people of the Uhrovec valley and of the Zay estate (Zayovské panstvo).

The village plans to place a permanent exhibition of the Uhrovec glass collection on the second above-ground floor and to set up an information and tourist office. Uhrovec is the birthplace of Ľudovít Štúr and Alexander Dubček.
