About the museum
The Pushkin Slavonic Museum is a unit of the Slovak National Library and has been housed since 1979 in the Renaissance manor house in Brodzany. In the 19th century it belonged to the Austrian diplomat Gustav Friesenhof, whose wife Alexandra N. Goncharova was the sister of the wife of the poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin.
The permanent exhibition consists of two parts. The family salons of the Friesenhof and Oldenburg families attract visitors with period furniture, personal objects, family photographs and rich pictorial decoration. In the music salon there are some books from the family library, and among the most precious exhibits are herbaria from the first half of the 19th century. The second part introduces the fate and work of the Russian classic through portraits, drawings and books.
The exhibition is complemented by a historically and botanically valuable park with trees, busts of Slovak and Russian writers, and the family tomb of the Friesenhofs.
