About the museum
The manor house in Svätý Anton was rebuilt in 1744–1750 by Count Andrej Koháry into a four-winged late-Baroque residence; the Baroque interior was completed in 1752. The Koháry family acquired the estate in 1622, and the last heiress, Mária Antónia, married Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg in 1815. Their descendant, Tsar Ferdinand I of Bulgaria, lived in the manor house after his abdication and devoted himself to botany, ornithology and hunting. After the Second World War the property was confiscated.
The Múzeum vo Svätom Antone is a nationwide hunting museum. It documents the development and present state of hunting in Slovakia and the history of the Koháry and Coburg families. Established in 1999 as a state contributory organisation, it has been housed in a manor house that has been a national cultural monument since 1985.
Visitors walk either the extended tour with the representative salons, the wing of Tsar Ferdinand, the Baroque chapel and the hunting exhibition, or the large tour with the apartments of Prince Philip, the last owner of the manor house. The estate includes a historic park with romantic features and small ponds.
