About the museum
The synagogue was built in 1927 for the local Orthodox Jewish community to plans by an unknown architect. The building is integrated into the surrounding development. The interior has preserved the Torah ark (aron ha-kodesh) with Torah scrolls and the original fittings; a wooden mechitza separates the men's and women's sections. The ritual bath in the basement is today used for commercial purposes.
At the rear of the building is an exhibition of Judaica with documents and objects of the Jewish community in Žilina, religious literature and documents on the town's pre-war activities.
