About the museum

The medieval village Paseka grew up in 2013 below Strečno Castle as part of the project Oddychová zóna pod hradom Strečno (Recreation Zone below Strečno Castle). It is operated by the Považské múzeum v Žiline (Považské Museum in Žilina), which also manages the nearby castle.

The village was built authentically on the model of medieval wooden and reed structures. It consists of five small, fully furnished houses with thatched roofs, among them the houses of a baker, a fisherman and a folk healer, and a shelter for pilgrims. The village also has a working bell tower and a well.

Nearby there is a recreation area with a fire pit, a grill and a well, a presentation space in the style of an amphitheatre for craft demonstrations and cultural performances, and a wooden playground inspired by castle architecture. The recreation zone is freely accessible; guided tours of the village are available for groups booked in advance.
