About the museum
The Ambro noble seat (Šľachtické sídlo rodu Ambro) belongs to the historic core of the former serf town of Beckov. In the first half of the 17th century the noble Dubnický family had a two-storey Renaissance building of rectangular ground plan erected beside a preserved section of the medieval fortification wall; the northern part of the seat is formed by the Gothic fortification wall itself. On the upper floor is a late Renaissance fireplace with the coat of arms of Štefan Medňanský and the date 1648. The last private owner, Zoltán Ambro, donated the seat to the Local National Committee in Beckov in 1974.
Today the building is managed by the Trenčín Museum in Trenčín. The first part of the exhibition is devoted to the life and work of Jozef Miloslav Hurban, the second to archaeological finds from Beckov Castle. These include a tympanum with the coat of arms of Ctibor zo Ctiboríc from the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, stone elements from the castle chapel, a fragment of the coat of arms of the Bánfi family, and examples of Gothic and Renaissance stove tiles. The archaeological section concludes with a large model of the castle ruin.
On the upper floor is an exhibition on the domestic culture of the nobility and the bourgeoisie from the collections of the Trenčín Museum: a Baroque-Rococo bedroom, a dining room and a gentlemen's salon with furniture from the Biedermeier and Historicism periods, an oriental cabinet, restored costumes from the second half of the 19th century and portraits of members of the Lipský family from the 18th century.
